Can Am Xteam Shut Down

Some sad but, I guess inevitable, news that we received from Mick this week about Can AM shutting down its ATV racing program here in Australia.

Well I guess this day was always going to come. 47industries first teamed up with BRP about 6 years ago to form the Australian Can-am X-Team. We went from 3 riders to 14 at one point, taking out almost every ATV title there was in Australia and chalking up well over 500 podiums in total.

For the last 3 years there has been very minimal budget at all for the X-Team, but we still managed to keep riders on board, winning races and waving the Can-am flag. Unfortunately though, as time went on most of our riders were offered deals with other brands and they reluctantly moved on, and the time has come when our final two riders, Clint and Troy Sheridan from Tasmania, have had to make the tough decision to move away from racing the DS450's, mainly due to the difficulty in getting new machines because of the limited amount of DS450's produced. The boys really love the DS's, but you can't ride what you don't have!

Clint and Troy have achieved massive exposure for Can-am in the two years they have been on board, not only winning almost every event they entered, but also working tirelessly with their local Tasmanian media to promote themselves, the sport and Can-am. They regularly set up displays at local shows to promote Can-am at their own expense and even as recently as last week the boys took 3 days off work and donated their time to help me shoot the ATV and Registration Video in the Tasmanian high country, all with nothing expected in return.

You would be hard pressed to find a more loyal pair of racers than the Sheridan Brothers, which is why the boys were devastated when I sat down with them in Devonport last week and had the talk about their racing future, but we all agreed they had no choice but to start racing another brand.

We will still be supporting the boys as best we can with CRC and a few of our other sponsors, but they will now be riding non Can-am machines.

They would dearly love to come back to Can-am one day as they love the company, the people and the machines, but they understand the reality of where the industry is focusing it's marketing spend right now, and unfortunately it isn't in sport quads. For now the boys will be racing Honda ATV's, but they have chosen for now to ride as independent racers, being supported by their sponsors and a local dealer in Tasmania.
I guess then that this means there is no point in prolonging the inevitable, so we are shutting down the team's website ( and officially closing the Australian Can-am X-Team program.

Thanks to all of our past riders for your dedication to the brand and a big thank you to BRP for the opportunity we have had in operating the program over the past 6 years, it's been one of the highlights of my working career.

Kind regards

Go X-Team
